篇一：关于书籍和电子设备对抗的英语作文

What is the dominant means of spreading information, the books or the
Internet?
With the rapid growth of our society and the whole world, we have entered an era of explosive information. Everyday when you weak up, it is nearly impossible to avoid being exposed to all kinds of fresh news or information, whether it’s politics, economics, social issues or just some sorts of hilarious entertainment scandal. It seems we are living inside the “news”.
So, how do these new coins slip into our daily life? Many scholars argue they are from books, various kinds of books. In their minds, nearly everything related to knowledge or maybe just words, comes from the “thick papers”. Sure, they are correct. Without books, humans will lose one of the most important means of making progress. We need to know things, to develop our minds as well as our lives. However, no matter how books are stressed out, they always have one disadvantage----not instant. People need to take some time to get what they want. Perhaps after their reading, they find it already out-of-date. The frustration leads to another access----the Internet.
The Internet provides an amazing forum for the free exchange of ideas. Given the relatively few restrictions governing access and usage, it is the communication modal equivalent of international waters. Even before the Internet came into wide spread use, people have already utilized it to acknowledge and deliver information. That is what we call the “new information age”. But much less widely reported has been the notion that the Internet maybe responsible for furthering the fragmentation of society by alienating its individual users. So many people have the Internet binges. They cannot stop surfing the Internet once they have got online. How terrible that is! Internet indeed can spread useful things in an environmental-friendly way for the sake of users’ enjoyment. They can be instant in that you just have to click and glimpse and all the newest ideas will be in your mind. Some call it magic, others strategy. Because the Internet providers make a fortune through these hundreds of thousands of clicks everyday. Well, nobody can deny that but it still doesn’t hamper your convenience of knowing things.
When the rapidness of the Internet and human brain’s progress meets, which one will dominate the world? It is hard to say, but as a student majoring in language, I still prefer the “thick books”. The Internet can be a convenient tool, but they cannot replace the books. Books are the oldest means of knowledge spreading and it doesn’t worsen the nation from any respect. It elevates people’s mind and makes them wise. Youngsters might prefer to use the Internet more than ever. In the long run, the book holds the first place and that’s why there exists a library instead of an “Internetary”.

In this modern materialistic world, the majority of people are in hot pursuit of material gains, and money is considered the most valuable thing of all, which, personally speaking, is quite superficial. As far as I am concerned, reading is much more valuable than anything else, for it can benefit us in many ways. The old saying, “to open a book is always beneficial” vividly shows how valuable reading is. Firstly, it goes beyond doubt that reading is a very important way to gain
knowledge. Reading is like travelling, the process of which enables you to experience the colorful world and enlarge your eyes scope. By reading history books, you can understand how a regime prospers or collapses, helping you draw useful lessons and develop more wisdom. By reading books of science, you can keep yourself informed in the field of
scientific endeavors, thus appreciating how science creates wonders. In a word, reading can eich your knowledge and get whatever information you need.
In addition, you can get mental encouragement from reading and improve yourself in all aspects. For instance, the stories of well-known people in books help turn an aimless person into an ambitious one, setting up a short or long-term goal for himself. If the daily troubles make you feel desperate, then you will be mentally stroked and encouraged by reading how famous people such as Beethoven made miracles in the face of insurmountable difficulties. Books are a great source of mental encouragement, giving you motives to move forward. Finally, reading good books is one of the greatest pleasures in life. It increases our joy when we are in high spirits, and lessens our sorrow when we are discouraged. Reading will always bring us enjoyment and satisfaction. Good books also serve as gentle companions or faithful friends that will never betray us. While reading, we don’t feel lonely. Books are ready to give us whatever we need such as knowledge, friendship and encouragement.
To sum up, reading is undoubtedly beneficial to you. To open a book is like opening a door, through which you will enter a museum, where all man-made wonders and unique wisdoms are available for you to appreciate; to open a book is like opening a window, through which you can enjoy fresh air、blue sky and wonderful natural landscapes , making you feel refreshed
Speaking of reading, many people are excited because reading brings them both knowledge and entertainment. By reading, we can learn lots of information and know our history. But for some people, reading is not their priority. They will choose to watch movies to have fun. However, I think people can benefit a lot by reading.
First of all, reading can let us know what have happened in history. Since history is recorded in books, if we read books, then we can not only what have happened in history but also we can better understand the great figures of the age.
Secondly, reading can eich our knowledge. By reading, we can know different kinds of things, how things happen and how to avoid bad things from happening. Books record a wide range of things about life. Through reading, we can know various aspects of life.
Thirdly, reading teaches us skills. There are so many books about how to learn a certain language, how to get a good job, how to become popular in your circle, how to cook and so on. Thus, these kinds of books can make us more skillful if we do a certain thing.
All in all, we can find lots of benefits through reading.
总之，我们能够通过读书收获很多。
说起读书，很多人都很兴奋，读书不仅能带给他们知识，而且也能带给他们娱乐。通过读书，我们能得到很多信息，了解我们的历史。但是对于一部分人来说，阅读并不是他们的首选。他们会选择看电影来找乐子。但是，我认为，读书能让我们获益。
第一，读书能让我们知道历史。历史都被记录在数中，如果我们读书的话，我们不仅能了解历史，而且我们也能更加了解时代伟人。
第二，读书能让我们丰富我们的知识。通过读书，我们能了解很多事物，了解到事件是怎么发生的，怎么避免不利事件的发生。书本记录着社会的方方面面。通过读书，我们能了解生活的方方面面的知识。
第三，我们能通过读书来学习一些技能。很多书都是写关于怎么学会一门语言，怎么找到一份好工作，怎么让自己在圈子中更受欢迎以及怎么烹饪等之类的东西。通过这些书，我们能在做事的时候更加熟练。

推荐一些英文学习有关的书
受朋友邀请推荐一些和英文学习有关的书，我从我这几年来学英语的经历来分享一下我读过的，对我有所帮助的书。以下内容非常个人，大家可以按需吸收。
以下我提到的书，如果感兴趣的话我推荐你购买纸质版，花钱买书是最好的投资。当然也可以去网上搜电子版，只是请不要问我去哪里下载。 这本书去哪买？这本书去哪下载？

有关如何学单词这个话题我已经写过很多文章来说明:

学习单词时我们要注意些什么？ 我们来背单词吧
一味的追求词汇量是学习的一个误区，就像是我们认识很多汉字并不代表汉语水平就高。但是词汇量的确是学习的一个基础，初期需要刻意地学习。我刚开始学英语的时候也不知道从何下手，我选择的是背字典被词汇书，熬过了这一关，我就上道了 -- 当我们还没有实力应用技巧的时候，笨方法就是最好的方法。
如果正在准备考试的话，就买这个考试对应的词汇书，随便买一本就行（这样的书大都是直接的汉英释义，简单粗暴），用半个月的时间对这本书的80%词汇做到“见到就知道什么意思”。这个过程枯燥无聊，但这是必经之路 -- 很可能这个过程中记得词都会忘记了，没关系，先混个脸熟为以后的进一步掌握打好基
础。如果你的基础已经够好了，也不要骄傲，我们可以用这一类的词汇书籍来查漏补缺。
主要目标不是为了考试，而是刻意地学习单词的话可以看这三本书：
Verbal Advantage
Merriam-Webster's Vocabulary Builder
Word Power Made Easy
这三本书都全是英文，有一定的难度，很难坚持读完（我至今还没有读完）。书中配有对应的联系可以帮助我们记忆。读这一类的书我的意见是先把书通读一遍，把一些自己已经认识的词复习一下，对从来没见过的词先建立第一印象消除陌生感，不要指望一口气吃个胖子。
如果这三本书读起来有困难可以试一试这两套书：
牛津英语词汇（Oxford Word Skills)
剑桥英语在用系列 (English Vocabulary in Use)
这两套书是国内出版社引进的，编排的顺序很好，价格便宜，每天学一点即可。
The Great Courses上有一个关于学单词的课，叫 Building a Better Vocabulary，有视频和对应的pdf资料。这个难度比较大，适合词汇量在1w以上的朋友。除了学习这些词汇外，更重要的是学习它的方法。
我没有读过有关通过词根学单词的书，因为对我来说我觉得很麻烦（可能是我的打开方式不对）。如果要通过词根学单词的话，在这里推荐《没有词是一座孤岛 -- 溯源解义学单词》，这本书已经成为了我的睡前读物。
关于语法学习类的中文书，我推荐：
张满胜的《英语语法新思维》系列（共三本，比较全面）
叶永昌主编的《英语阅读参考手册》
陈用仪的《英语常用词疑难用法手册》
《COBUILD英语语法大全》（这本书的思路很有意思） 《新编大学英语语法》（英专的教科书，可以通读一遍）
英文语言的：
剑桥出版的English in Use的中级（不推荐高级） Practical English Usage （必备神书，app store有对应的app
版）
Fowler's Modern English Usage
这三本书是比较权威的参考书，比较靠谱。
语法书这方面国外的出版物不太适合我们把英语当作外语的人，但是也可以看一看来查漏补缺，了解一些母语人士常犯的语法错误。这方面的书我推荐：
Woe is I The Blue Book of Grammar and Pronunciation
Grammar Girl 系列（有对应的网站和Podcast可以使用）
The Sense of Style （这本书有些难度，作者Steven Pinker
是位语言学家）
